Selenium

Selenium is a mineral present in small traces, but essential for the body as it allows the cellular antioxidants to function properly.

It is part of dozens of proteins (selenium-proteins) and participates in various processes, from DNA synthesis to the metabolism of thyroid hormones, through protection against infections and reproduction.

Selenium is an indispensable component for the formation of antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxides (GSH-Px) and thioredoxin disulfide redactase, which have the function of hindering the oxidation of certain molecules on cell membranes.

It is also found in the biological catalysts responsible for the conversion of certain thyroid hormones. Most selenium is concentrated in the liver and thyroid gland.

Its deficiency can reduce the function of skeletal muscles, interfere with the production of red blood cells, change the pigmentation of the skin and hair and increase the fragility of the nails.

It can also predispose to the development of diseases in the presence of additional stresses such as viral infections, can be associated with male infertility and can worsen the consequences of iodine deficiency, thus increasing the risk of cretinism in children.

Selenium is contained in the food supplement THYROID METABOLISM PRO
