Valerian

Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) is a very rich plant of flavonoids and valerine alkaloids, actinidine).

The root of the plant contains essential oils (valerian acid esters, valeric acid esters, caryophyllene, terpinolene, vlerenol and other compounds called iridoids).

Their mechanism of action is now important and well known.

Valerenic acids and iridoids inhibit the enzyme responsible for the metabolic degradation of the gamma-aminobutyric neurotransmitter (GABA), responsible in the nervous system for the sensation of relaxation and the induction of sleep.

Due to the presence of these active ingredients, valerian has sedative, relaxing and hypno-inducing properties, that is, promoting sleep, reducing the time necessary to fall asleep. It is indicated especially in case of insomnia and anxiety.

It also acts on smooth muscles with spasmolytic action, in case of cramps and irritable bowel.

Valerian is present in the food supplement GOOD SLEEP: https://www.elisirlife.it/en/integratore-alimentare-good-sleep-100-cps.html
