Thyroid hormones

Thyroid hormones control the speed with which the body’s chemical processes, such as metabolism, take place and influence it. Like? By stimulating almost all the tissues of the body to produce proteins and increasing the amount of oxygen used by cells.

These hormones also affect many vital body functions, such as heart rate, the speed at which calories are burned, skin integrity, growth, heat production, fertility and digestion.

They are:

  • T4: thyroxine (also called tetraiodothyronine) – the main hormone produced by the thyroid, converted into T3, the most active hormone. The conversion of T4 to T3 occurs in the liver and other tissues
  • T3: triiodothyronine – most active hormone.
  • Calcitonin – produced in parafollicular cells is involved (together with parathyroid hormone) in the regulation of calcium metabolism

To produce thyroid hormones, the thyroid needs iodine, as it incorporates it into thyroid hormones.

When thyroid hormones are used, some of the iodine contained in the hormones is released and returns to the thyroid, where it is reused to make other hormones.

Elisir Life has developed the Thyroid metabolism pro supplement, useful for optimal thyroid function, to increase metabolism in a natural way and to increase psycho-physical energy.
