Memory and cognitive functions

Very often the hectic life causes stress, tension and particular emotional states that weaken our intellectual and mnemonic abilities to such an extent that it is extremely difficult to keep in mind information, appointments or past events that we would normally remember.

Moreover, the human being suffers, naturally, a mnemonic decline with the passing of the years. This memory loss can also be caused by several other factors, such as lack of sleep, an inadequate eating lifestyle, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, sedentary behavior, excessive smoking and alcohol consumption.

However, it is always possible to optimize memory and attention even with simple daily tricks, which can become part of our routine. Keeping the brain healthy and active now means laying the groundwork for efficient future function, in terms of both memory and concentration.

There are many substances useful to optimize memory and improve our cognitive capacity as a source of elements useful to its well-being, to support it, revitalize it and increase concentration.

Generally, such ingredients are represented by:

  • Vitamins, especially those of group B useful for the well-being of the nervous system, while those of group C and E play an antioxidant action, fighting free radicals
  • minerals such as phosphorus, zinc, magnesium and iron
  • Omega-3 fatty acids: which perform a neuroprotective function and provide integrity of cognitive functions.
  • amino acids or their derivatives: for example, Acetyl L carnitine, which contributes to the formation of acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter that is the protagonist in the learning and memory processes.
  • plant extracts which are attributed to stimulating brain function
  • mushrooms, for example Hericium.

These substances are contained in many dietary supplements, which are not drugs, therefore, they are not able to cure any kind of pathology. Therefore, if the loss of concentration, memory and other cognitive functions is induced by pathological causes, it is necessary to contact the doctor who will tell the patient the most suitable therapeutic strategy.
