Bioflavonoids

Bioflavonoids, also called flavonoids, are ubiquitous pigments present in flowers, fruits and leaves of numerous plant species, as they are secondary metabolites of the biochemical processes of higher plants.

They are a class of about 6000 water-soluble compounds and from a chemical point of view they are polyphenols, often present in combination with sugars, with which they form glycosides, or esterified in more complex structures.

Due to the variety of effects, bioflavonoids are often used for the constitution of drugs, nutraceuticals and cosmetic preparations; their main activity is antioxidant, since they counteract the action and formation of free radicals, through the activity of scavenger of the latter.

Other properties are: anti-inflammatory, anti-mutagenic and anti-carcinogenic, as well as the ability to interact with different cellular enzymes.

Many of them can also have antimicrobial, antiviral, antifungal effects.

Flavonoid-based supplements are often placed on the market, alone or in association with other substances, which promote the most disparate properties, including anti-wrinkle, antioxidant and circulation properties.

Elisir Life formulations are rich in these substances, which maximize the health effect for a concrete application for Natural Health.
