Resveratrol

Resveratrol is a polyphenol naturally produced by various plants, which use it to protect themselves in stressful situations: injuries, infections by fungi or bacteria and exposure to ultraviolet rays.

Resveratrol is fat soluble and often bound to glucose molecules to form glucosides. Several in vitro studies have shown that Resveratrol can have multiple beneficial properties:

  • cardioprotective – protects vessels from plaque formation and the proliferation of smooth muscle tissue, stimulates the production of nitric oxide responsible for vasodilation processes and inhibits activation and aggregation of platelets, the first step in the formation of clots that can cause heart attacks and strokes .
  • antioxidant – has an important role in regulating the expression of genes for antioxidant enzymes (SOD1 and GPX1) and pro-oxidants, with an increase in the synthesis of antioxidant enzymes and a reduction in the production of free radicals.
  • anti-inflammatory – able to modulate a large number of physiological processes in the body, cell signaling involved in the regulation of inflammatory processes, in the immune response to infections.
  • neuroprotective – Stimulates neurogenesis and the formation of new vessels in the brain, stimulates the removal of the β-amyloid peptide constituent of the amyloid plaque that accumulates in certain areas of the brain in subjects affected by Alzheimer’s disease and reduces inflammatory processes and oxidative stress at the level of neurons.
  • contrasts aging – a precious ally for those who want to have a more toned, young and elastic skin, because it slows down cellular aging, revitalizes the cells of the connective tissue and stimulates the formation of collagen.

Elisir Life uses in its RESVENAC supplement a 98% Resveratrol extracted from the root of a plant called Polygonum cuspidatum.
