Astaxanthin

Astaxanthin is a carotenoid naturally present in some algae (Haematococcus pluvialis) and which gives their typical color to fish such as salmon and crustaceans such as lobster, shrimp and Krill.

It is endowed with antioxidant power: it is therefore attributed the ability to protect cells from damage associated with oxidation.

It is also believed to improve the functioning of the immune system. Its intake is proposed in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s, stroke, high cholesterol and age-related macular degeneration.

The properties attributed to this substance are truly numerous and remarkable.

In addition to its main antioxidant action, it shows good anti-inflammatory efficacy, stimulates blood circulation, reduces pressure and also helps to reduce bad cholesterol levels by reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Astaxanthin also shows a powerful photo-protective action against UV-A (they represent 95% of the UV rays that reach the earth, very penetrating, promoting oxidative stress of the deeper layers of the dermis, favoring the degradation of collagen and elastin) higher than that of Beta-carotene.

It is able to inhibit the induction of collagenase and elastase, protecting the extracellular matrix, and also protect the cellular component from apoptosis and inflammation produced by ultraviolet rays.

he intake of this molecule requires time and gradualness for the benefits to be observed.

Numerous studies show that supplementation with astaxanthin reduces exfoliation, improves hydration, skin elasticity and reduces wrinkles in the areas most exposed to solar radiation.

Astaxanthin is contained in the food supplement ELIKRILL (https://www.elisirlife.it/en/integratore-alimentare-elikrill-30-perle.html )
